(30 ECTS). These form part 6 of the programme – the theoretical content. In addition, the training of childcare educationalists, social workers and social educators all give10 credits (30 ECTS).

3. GENERAL GOALS OF THE PROGRAMME

The objective of the training for social educators is to develop client-oriented and reflective persons who are qualified to carry out environmental therapy and habilitation and rehabilitation together with those who need these services.

The Act relating to universities and colleges describes the responsibility of the institution to provide education which is based on the most advanced knowledge in the fields of research and experience.

3.1. The College shall:

* create the conditions to enable the students to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes as social educators which are based on the most advanced knowledge in the fields of research, development and experience
* provide a learning environment which promotes the professional commitment of the students, their wish to participate and their personal development
* foster the students’ ability for critical reflection on the profession, ethics, their role as social educator and society
* motivate and form a foundation for the students’ integration of knowledge and further professional development
* be in contact with the practical experience field, client organizations, research and other training and subject areas

3.2. After the training the students shall:

* have knowledge of and understanding for the connection between social structures and processes and the actual situation of client groups
* have knowledge of normal development and development disturbances, and of handicaps of physical, psychological and social character
* have knowledge of general administrative principles and of the relevant legislation, and be able to handle issues which safeguard the client’s needs and rights
* be familiar with the main goals and instruments in social policy and be able to evaluate these critically and provide the basis for decisions in the support services and towards political authorities
* have an overview of the support services and be able to use them in cooperation with other professional groups and clients to promote the interests of the clients
