The social educator course is a full-time training programme which requires a work input corresponding to 37.5 hours per week from the student. To provide time for student activities, not more than four hours teaching will normally be given per day, four days a week. One day per week is devoted to student-controlled activities.

Based on a timetable providing 16 hours teaching per week, 8 hours on the timetable will give 1 credit (3  ECTS).


5. THEORETICAL CONTENT OF THE PROGRAMME

5.1.    Year 1 – Health-related work for the social educator

The first study year contains the main part of the health-related themes in the training programme. The aim of the focus on health is to integrate the medical subject areas into a holistic understanding for the performance of the work of the social educator. The medical subject areas therefore stand in thematic relation to other subject areas which form the basis of the specific frame of reference of the training programme.

Theme 1.1: Ideology, relationships and reflection in the work of the social educator


Objectives for theme 1.1:
On completion of theme 1.1 in the first study year, the student shall:

- have knowledge of the development of the profession and the importance this has and has had for the role of the social educator
- have knowledge of diaconia as an interdisciplinary perspective in health and social subjects
- have knowledge of the connection between ideology and view of mankind
- have knowledge of the ethical principles and guidelines for the performance of the work of the social educator
- have knowledge of working methods and views on habilitation and rehabilitation
- have knowledge of communication models and the process of communication
- have knowledge of the research process and qualitative interview as a method of acquiring data
- have knowledge of group processes
